How to Print a Nigerian Passport Application Form
A printed copy of your application form is the physical handoff between the portal and the biometric officer. Here is when the PDF generates and how to retrieve it.
Why the printed form matters
Almost everything in the Nigerian passport process happens on the portal. The printed application form is the one exception. It is the physical handoff between the online file and the human officer who captures your biometrics. The officer matches the printed form's barcode against the centre's terminal, stamps the page as proof of submission, and files the paper version alongside your biometric capture record.
Show up to the biometric appointment without the printed form and most centres will turn you away or send you to a print shop, which means losing your place in the queue. Print the form the day your payment status moves to Paid, save a digital copy locally as well, and bring it to the appointment flat in an envelope.
When the form is generated
The portal releases the printable form in stages, not all at once.
| Stage | What you can print |
|---|---|
| After you submit the online form | An interim acknowledgement showing the application reference is sometimes available, but not the formal printable application form. Officers do not accept the acknowledgement alone. |
| After payment status moves to Paid | The full printable bundle is released: the application form, the payment receipt, and (once booked) the appointment slip. This is the version the biometric officer expects. |
| After biometric capture | Same form remains downloadable. The portal does not regenerate or change its content; you can re-print at any time during the life of the application. |
If your dashboard does not show the print option, the most common reason is that the payment has not been reconciled to Paid yet. See passport payment pending and passport payment failed for the right diagnosis path.
How to print the form
- 1Confirm payment statusLog into immigration.gov.ng. Open your active application. The status should read Paid, not Pending or Failed.
- 2Find the print menuLook for 'Print Application' or 'View Receipt' in the application's action menu. Most dashboards group all printable documents together.
- 3Open the PDFThe form opens in a new tab. Check it has your application number, reference number, full name, date of birth, and the barcode at the top of the first page.
- 4Print on white A4Standard white A4 paper, black and white is acceptable. Set scale to 100 percent; do not shrink to fit, which can blur the barcode.
- 5Save a local copySave the PDF to your phone or computer as well. Useful if the printed copy is lost on the way to the appointment.
If the form will not generate or print
The portal occasionally refuses to produce the PDF. Run through this list in order before contacting support.
- Status check. The form is released only once payment is Paid. If status is Pending, the PDF will refuse to generate.
- Different browser. Chrome and Edge handle the portal more reliably than older browsers. Mobile Safari sometimes fails on the PDF download.
- Private window. Open immigration.gov.ng in a private or incognito window. Browser extensions, ad blockers, and tracker blockers can interfere with the PDF servlet.
- Disable PDF preview. Right-click the Print Application link and choose Save Link As to download the file rather than opening it in the browser preview.
- Try off-peak. The portal is more reliable at off-peak times, typically early morning or late evening on weekdays.
- Open a support ticket. If none of the above works after 24 hours, raise a ticket on the portal with your application number and reference number, asking for the form to be regenerated server-side.
The printed form is one of three documents
The biometric officer expects three NIS-generated printouts at the appointment.
- The application form (this article).
- The payment receipt. See how to reprint a Nigerian passport payment receipt.
- The appointment slip. See how to book a Nigerian passport biometric appointment.
Print all three before the day. Then bring originals of every supporting document, two recent passport photographs (endorsed on the reverse by your guarantor for fresh applications), and your government-issued ID. The form anchors the file; the rest of the package supports it.
Lost the payment receipt?
The receipt regenerates from the portal at any time; here is the retrieval route.
Frequently asked questions
When is the Nigerian passport application form available to print?
After you submit the online application and the payment status moves to Paid on immigration.gov.ng. The full printable bundle, including the form, payment receipt, and appointment slip, is released at that point.
Where on the immigration.gov.ng portal do I print my application form?
Log into your application dashboard, open the active application, and look for the Print Application or View Receipt links in the action menu. The PDF opens in a new tab from there.
Do I need to print the Nigerian passport application form in colour?
No. NIS centres accept the form printed in black and white on standard white A4 paper. The barcode and reference number must be clean and unsmudged; that matters more than colour fidelity.
My passport application form PDF will not generate — what should I do?
First check that the application status is Paid and not Pending. The portal locks the form download until the payment is confirmed. If status is Paid but the PDF still fails, try a different browser, disable browser extensions, or open in a private window. Clearing cookies on the portal often resolves the issue.
How many copies of the Nigerian passport application form do I need at the biometric appointment?
One is the official requirement at most NIS centres. Bringing two is sensible — the officer sometimes stamps a copy as proof of submission and keeps one for the file. The cost of printing an extra copy is negligible.
Can I print the Nigerian passport application form at the centre?
Some NIS centres have printing kiosks or accept a copy printed at a nearby business centre, but you cannot assume it. The safe move is to print before you leave home; queues are long enough without adding a printing detour.
Does the Nigerian passport application form expire if I do not print it immediately?
The form remains downloadable from your dashboard for the life of the application. Your payment is valid for 12 months, and the PDF stays accessible during that window. Save a copy locally as well as printing.
