Nigerian services in United Kingdom
The United Kingdom is home to one of the largest and longest-established Nigerian communities anywhere in the world, concentrated in London and other major cities such as Manchester, Birmingham and Leeds. For most Nigerian-government matters — passports, identity and banking — the day-to-day reality is a mix of online portals run from Nigeria and in-person steps handled by the mission in London.
Nigeria's main mission in the UK is the Nigeria High Commission in London, at Nigeria House, 9 Northumberland Avenue, WC2N 5BX. Its Consular & Immigration Section handles passport submission and biometric capture, and publishes the current requirements, opening hours and document cut-off times on its official site. Because biometric capture has to be done in person, applicants outside London should watch the mission's official channels for outreach sessions, which are run from time to time in other UK cities to reduce travel.
A useful thing to understand up front: most services now start online. You complete and pay for a passport application on the Nigeria Immigration Service portal, then attend the mission only for the in-person steps. Banking has moved in the same direction — Nigerians in the UK can now open a Nigerian bank account remotely, without flying home, thanks to the Non-Resident BVN platform.
The four guides below walk each of these through for the UK specifically: renewing your Nigerian passport, enrolling for or sorting out your NIN, registering or updating your BVN, and opening a Nigerian bank account from the UK. NigeriaHowTo is independent and not affiliated with any government or mission; we point you to the official channels and never ask for your personal identifiers.
Country-specific guides for United Kingdom are still being prepared. For now, see the general guides below.
