Nigerian services in United Arab Emirates
The United Arab Emirates is home to a sizeable and active Nigerian community, concentrated in Dubai and Abu Dhabi but spread across Sharjah and the northern Emirates too โ a mix of professionals, business owners, students and workers. For Nigerian-government matters โ passports, identity and banking โ Nigerians in the UAE work through a combination of online portals run from Nigeria and in-person steps handled by the missions.
Nigeria runs two missions in the Emirates: the Embassy of Nigeria in Abu Dhabi (off Arabian Gulf Road) and the Consulate General in Dubai (Al Satwa). Both handle consular and passport matters, so most people simply use whichever is more convenient to reach. One local nuance worth knowing: the missions often run biometric data capture and passport collection on set weekdays rather than continuously, so checking the current schedule on the official site before you travel saves a wasted trip.
A helpful thing to understand: most services now begin online. You complete and pay for a passport application on the Nigeria Immigration Service portal, then attend a mission only for the in-person steps. Banking has moved the same way โ Nigerians in the UAE can now open a Nigerian bank account remotely, without flying home, through the Non-Resident BVN platform.
The four guides below cover each of these for the UAE specifically: renewing your Nigerian passport, sorting out your NIN, registering or updating your BVN, and opening a Nigerian bank account from the UAE. NigeriaHowTo is independent and not affiliated with any government or mission; we point you to the official channels and never ask for your personal identifiers.
Country-specific guides for United Arab Emirates are still being prepared. For now, see the general guides below.
