Nigerian services in Germany

Germany hosts a substantial Nigerian community, with concentrations in Berlin, Hamburg, Frankfurt, Munich, Cologne and the wider Rhine-Ruhr area โ€” a mix of professionals, students and families. For Nigerian-government matters โ€” passports, identity and banking โ€” Nigerians in Germany work through a combination of online portals run from Nigeria and in-person steps handled by the embassy.

Nigeria's mission in Germany is the Embassy of Nigeria in Berlin, at Neue Jakobstrasse 4, 10179 Berlin. Its Consular & Immigration Section handles passport submission and biometric capture, and publishes the current requirements and hours on its official site. Germany is also one of the countries where NIMC runs a diaspora NIN enrolment centre, so identity enrolment is available locally as well โ€” though, unlike the BVN, it still requires in-person biometrics.

A useful thing to understand: most services now start online. You complete and pay for a passport application on the Nigeria Immigration Service portal, then attend the embassy only for the in-person steps. Banking has moved the same way โ€” Nigerians in Germany can now open a Nigerian bank account remotely, without flying home, through the Non-Resident BVN platform.

The four guides below cover each of these for Germany specifically: renewing your Nigerian passport, enrolling for your NIN, registering or updating your BVN, and opening a Nigerian bank account from Germany. NigeriaHowTo is independent and not affiliated with any government or mission; we point you to the official channels and never ask for your personal identifiers.

Country-specific guides for Germany are still being prepared. For now, see the general guides below.
